Colorful Rajasthani Mehndi at the Vibiana

January 29th, 2016

When Nikki's friend approached her with the good news that her son had gotten engaged and she wanted Exquisite Events to plan the wedding, Nikki was ecstatic! This was ten months before they set the date. We immediately started with recommending various venues after it was decided that all events will take place in LA. After visiting a few places, the decision was made to have the mehndi at Vibiana and reception at Beverly Wilshire. Dates for both events were set in December with the mehndi night on December 18th and reception on December 20th. The bride's family was planning on hosting the actual ceremony and reception, which is traditionally done in Pakistan. Once the venues were booked, we started the planning and design process. Needless to say Nikki and Madiha were truly excited to be planning the mehndi at the beautiful Vibiana. Because of the high ceiling, the idea was to hang something above the dance floor to create a focal point. The couple was to sit on the altar, which would be another focal point. After much discussion with the groom's mother, the theme for mehndi was decided as Rajasthani with lots of color and drama. After multiple design walk through's, Nikki decided on turquoise, saffron yellow, and lime green. Since the groom's mother is majorly into clothes and has a keen fashion sense, she made a trip to Pakistan for the trusseau and ordered the bridal ensemble for this night in same color palette. Linens on long tables were turquoise and all the rounds were dressed with lime green underlays and a heavily embellished overlay in a turquoise color. Mahogany chivari chair pads were in matching lime green. The drama was brought in on the dance floor by replicating the linens in lime green and turquoise. Stunning florals sat atop guest tables and flickering candles created magic. The stage was decorated with beautiful furniture with a live flower wall and panels with colorful umbrellas and lanterns. Lighting at the venue was magical and dramatic. The groom arrived decked in Rajasthani gear from head to toe, along with the bride who looked like a princess. Guests enjoyed the cocktail hour in the garden and the weather could not have been more perfect. The groom made his entrance with twelve dancers that were dressed in traditional Rajasthani attire amidst drummers and flautist followed by the bride's entrance on a throne. It was one of the most regal and royal processions as they made their way up to the stage. Guests and both families danced the night away, and food stalls which stayed open all night were enjoyed by all. It was especially wonderful to watch parents of the groom just letting loose and really enjoying their son's event. Just as they say, all good things come to an end, this night did too but definitely on a very high note!! Beverly Hills Montage Engagement Party

January 22nd, 2016

We absolutely LOVE planning destination weddings in LA so when we received a phone call from a mom in Kuwait saying she was having her daughters Engagement party at the Montage Beverly Hills, we were so excited. Hessah and Ali are one of the most beautiful couples, inside and out.  When I spoke with Hessah's mom she said she wanted the most stunning engagement party for her daughter and most importantly, she wanted it to be different from anything she had seen since many of her guests were coming from overseas. It was an absolute joy to design this room. The colors we decided on were ivory and rose gold with splashes of blush. A lot of times we ask the client to give us a few adjectives of what they envision the room to look like and this time the words were regal with touches of bling. We draped and recarpeted the room in ivory and rented all the tables and chairs.  For the tables, we used rectangular crystal tables and round mirror tables to add some glam into the room. The focal point was the band's stage which had an entire wall full of white hydrangea with beautiful mirrored panels on either side. The room had a warm, rose gold glow to it and looked so romantic and "regal" when the doors opened. The servers all had their measurements taken to wear custom white coat tails and the entertainment set the tone for the evening. We had professional dancers perform 3 sets where the last set was a an upbeat Latin dance that opened up the dance floor that stayed packed until the night was over. Hessah and Ali looked like royalty. She was wearing a beautiful Zac Posen gown in a red orange hue and he was very dapper in his Ralph Lauren tuxedo. This was definitely one of my favorite events to date, not only because it turned out so beautiful but because the family was such a joy and pleasure to work with. Wishing Hessah and Ali a lifetime of happiness Have an Exquisite Day! Up Close and Personal with Mr. Radha Arora – President of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts

January 8th, 2016

Happy New Year to our beloved readers! We hope you had a lovely holiday season spending time with family and friends, and we hope you are as excited as we are to welcome all things new in 2016. This year, we're trying something new on our blog. In our work, Nikki and Madiha have had the pleasure to travel around the world and meet extraordinarily inspirational people in the luxury event industry, and we'd like to highlight at least one of the people we know and admire each month. We hope you enjoy the first "Up Close and Personal" blog, where we interviewed Mr. Radha Arora, the President of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts. Nikki has tremendous respect for Radha and considers him to be a good friend. Radha Arora President of Rosewood PropertiesEE: How many Rosewood properties have opened worldwide since you became the President? RA: Since I joined Rosewood, 4 new properties have joined the portfolio in Abu Dhabi, London, Beijing and Tuscany. In addition, we have also announced 15 new properties that will open over the next 4 years in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East. EE: What does a typical work day look like? RA: The honest truth is that there is no typical day. I travel a lot and so it sometimes takes me a few seconds when I wake up to remember which country I’m in. But it’s this variety that energizes and excites me. I’m not someone who could sit behind a desk doing the same thing day after day. My “typical??? day could see me juggling media interviews, meeting with potential new owners, interviewing potential Managing Directors for new properties, corresponding with guests and looking at designs for some of our hotels about to undergo a renovation – all of this while keeping an eye on our competitors. Let’s just say, if Cirque de Soleil ever needed a new juggling act, I would probably get the job.

EE: How do you stick to a personal regime with incessant travels? RA: It’s hard but you have to be strict and carve out some time to hit the gym. Even if I don’t want to get on to that treadmill, I know I’ll feel better afterwards. I’m a big believer in heathy mind, healthy body. I also have some of my best ideas on the treadmill – because you’re not looking at your emails, it frees your mind to think about other things.

EE: What advice would you give to people in the industry to be successful, professional and create a strong brand? RA: Forming long-lasting, successful relationships is key. It’s a small world and you will often bump into the same people again and again.

EE: One of the properties that is especially close to Nikki's heart, is the Hotel de Crillon in Paris. We can't wait for the re-opening of that property, because we heard it is now a modern style. Nikki has stayed there many times and has fond memories of staying in the Sonia Rykiel Suite. Can you tell us anything more about its grand opening, or what you hope its guests will enjoy? RA: I’m afraid I’ve been sworn to secrecy about the Crillon for the moment but it will be magnifique!  Karl Lagerfeld himself is designing two incredibly glamorous suites . . . but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. All I will say is that it is our intention to return the Crillon to the center of Parisian society.

EE: Do you have a favorite property? RA: That’s like asking me if I have a favorite child. I simply cannot pick a favorite. How do you choose between indulging on white truffle pizza at Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco, or lounging on the white sands of Little Dix Bay or sipping cocktails in Bemelmans Bar at The Carlyle.  All of them are unique, memorable and wonderful.

EE: As we are wedding designers, and love to travel the world doing destination weddings, what would you say are the best properties for large scale events? RA: There are several properties that are perfect for large scale events.  In Mexico, San Miguel de Allende recently opened the Rosewood Lawn,  a stunning outdoor space that overlooks San Miguel and can accommodate up to 700 people.  La Palapa at Rosewood Mayakoba is a beautiful beachfront pavilion which holds up to 400 people who can dine overlooking the Caribbean. Within our city hotels, Rosewood London offers a wonderful ballroom while the Pavilion at Rosewood Beijing feels more like a grand private residence.  For the ultimate destination wedding, I would suggest Jumby Bay.  What could be better than having your wedding on your own private island in the Caribbean?

EE: What are you looking forward to for 2016? RA: On a professional level, we have 3 new properties scheduled to open  - Rosewood Puebla in Mexico, Rosewood Phuket in Thailand and Rosewood Phnom Penh in Cambodia.  In addition we also have some very exciting announcements to make next year.  But on a personal level, I’m simply looking forward to spending more time with my nearest and dearest.

We'd like to thank Mr. Arora for taking the time to speak with us. It's always great to hear from him, and we enjoyed getting to know a little bit more about Rosewood Hotels and all of the exciting things happening in 2016! If anyone would like us to design, plan, and execute your destination wedding at one of these incredible venues, please email us at info@www.exquisevents.com.
