Fashion Friday Highlights

February 26th, 2016

It's #FashionFriday and today we are highlighting a few of our favorite designers!

Elie Saab

Elie Saab has been in the fashion world since the 1980s when he moved from Lebanon to Paris to study. Soon after he returned to Beirut where he opened his atelier specializing in bridal wear with very rich fabrics. He has since been a major force in the fashion industry and a staple at red carpet events. His use of couture fabric and beadwork is absolutely breathtaking and we are in awe of every new collection he has. Here is some of his exquisite work! Elli Saab on Exquisite Events Blog

Sabyasachi Mukherjee

Sabyasachi Mukherjee is an Indian designer who started his career in the late 1990s. He attended the National Institute of Fashion Technology in India and went on to win recognition and accolades all over the world. He has dressed Bollywood and Hollywood celebrities alike as his work is flawless with a strong point of view. Many of our brides have donned his silouhettes, as well. We also love the way he styles his editorial shoots in such an artistic way. Recently he collaborated with Christian Louboutin at India Couture Week the collection was stunning! Here are just a few of our favorites from designer, Sabyasachi. Sabyasachi Mukherjee on Exquisite Events Blog Thanks so much for stopping by and reading our blog. A Mix of Wedding Traditions in Toronto

February 19th, 2016

The client approached us a few months prior to the wedding to design a simple and elegant event in Toronto.  They were having two events: a Muslim Ceremony followed by reception the next day.  Because the groom's family was from Syria and the Bride's from Pakistan, they wanted to incorporate traditions from both cultures. The venue that was chosen for ceremony was the beautiful Aga Khan Museum for close family and friends followed by a traditional Middle Eastern feast to pay homage to the groom's heritage. The next day, the event was at the Atlantis Trillium Room with the most stunning backdrop of the Toronto skyline.  The room is multi level with large windows looking out on the beautiful downtown Toronto and the river. The bride wanted deep colors for her reception, so deep purple was chosen for linens embellished with maroon and burgundy flowers.  The couple's sweetheart table was on elevation with family tables around them.  The bride wanted a simple floral arch and it was a perfect way to accentuate her sweetheart table. The bride looked absolutely stunning in her custom Reem Acra gown.  The first dance was to Frank Sinatra's song "The Way You Look Tonight." The DJ and band did an amazing job of keeping everybody on the dance floor and guests noshed on Pakistani and Middle eastern delicacies.  The evening came to an end on a high note and young guests stayed on the dance floor till late at night. We wish the couple eternal happiness! Up Close and Personal with Grace Ormonde of Wedding Style Magazine

February 12th, 2016

Grace Ormonde Interview with Exquisite Events This month, we had the pleasure of interviewing Grace Ormonde, creator and Editor-in-Chief of Wedding Style Magazine, "a luxury wedding planning publication with a focus on fashion, jewelry, décor and travel." Grace has been a friend of Nikki and Madiha's for quite some time as our paths have often crossed while planning and publishing events. She is a delight and inspiration for event coordinators, designers, brides and a personal inspiration to Nikki and Madiha.  She is a hard working lady with a keen eye for details and luxury and her magazine is considered a luxury publication.  We hope you enjoy our conversation with Grace Ormonde! ??????????? EE: How did you get started with Wedding Style Magazine? GO: I was in retail and I worked with a lot of brides-to-be, I meet this one bride and she intrigued me into helping her. From there I decided to get into the event business and 10 years to this date, I started the “Grand Bridal Show??? which included a program. The program created was such a success that everyone asked me to buy an advertisement in it, and then I had a thought that I should start my own wedding magazine and the rest is history. EE: What did the first edition of Wedding Style Magazine look like? GO: See below Wedding Style 1998 Cover EE: What does a typical workday look like for you? GO: Going through submissions, speaking to agencies, working with my designers, and in between all that, I try to find time to speak to one client per day. EE: If you had to choose, what would you say was your favorite wedding that WSM published in 2015? GO: Shanna Khan & Justin McCabe  christian-oth-photography-wedding-2015-14 EE: From where do you draw inspiration? GO: From the talent I see and meet all over the world. That has always been my goal; to bring the best talent to my readers. EE: How do you find fresh content for each publication? GO: From the 1000s of submissions that come in weekly and of course things that we produce ourselves.  vera-wang-wedding-dresses-fall-2016-011_0 EE: Out of thousands of wedding submissions, how do you choose what to publish? What makes an ideal Wedding Style Magazine event? GO: That is always the hardest part of my job, as much as I like hundreds of pictures that I receive, I only have so many pages for print. I can’t pick all of it for the magazine, but I have developed other sources like the website, blog and social media where we are showing more content on a regular basis. An ideal Wedding Style submission includes a romantic and loving couple, unique wedding decor, and of course, the photography. The photos have to move me on some level; ultimately the photographs are what tells the story.  I am always looking for something that is a little bit different. There is always a twist on something that has been done before. When looking at a submission, I look at details like a custom couture gown designed for the bride, the look of the couple, the decor. There are many elements that go into selecting images. EE: What advice do you have for anyone planning a wedding? GO: Look at my magazine, (as she laughs) the real advice is, be particular about selecting the right group of people working with you to create your vision. Also, try to have fun during the planning process. Most importantly, remember the wedding day is not the marriage, but what is important is the journey ahead and love.  revelry-2015-tabletop-001 EE: What are some wedding day “no-nos???? GO: When a bride over accessorizes. My favorite look on a bride is a beautiful diamond earring and a stunning diamond ring. Simplicity is always the most elegant choice, anything that does not take away from a beautiful gown.  EE: What style advice do you have for brides? GO: To be clear what their vision is for their wedding, but be open to an idea that a planner or designer might have a better idea. In my experience, designers can come up with a design that we have never seen before.  duke-photography-wedding-plat-2014-land2 EE: What are some of best designs you have seen? GO: There are so many, I really don’t know where to start. It would be hard to pick one. That is one of the reasons why my first book was 400 pages. This year has been pretty extraordinary when it comes to bridal fashion designers.   EE: What do you love the most about your job? What’s the biggest challenge? GO: I love picking beautiful images and meeting designers and planners who produce beautiful events. A challenge I face is that I get a lot of requests from around the world asking for geographic specific magazines and I would love to one day fulfill that. EE: If you had to pick only one image from your career to describe you best, which image would you choose? GO: See below Wedding Style 2011 Cover EE: What does 2016 look like for you?  GO: Very busy and many exciting things in the works.

An Exquisite Winter Reception at the Beverly Wilshire

February 5th, 2016

We had one day free on Saturday, as this was the day the bride's family was hosting the reception on their own, however we were hired to take care of a few events for the groom and his family before they left the hotel to go to the wedding venue.  Madiha got to Beverly Wilshire to take care of logistics such as having the groom's car decorated with fresh flowers, groom's family's traditions such as sera bandi (groom's face is covered with flowers) at the Beverly Wilshire while other members of our team were waiting at Taglyan ensuring that the horse, mobile DJ, drummers and dancers were ready for the groom's arrival for Baraat.  Everything worked like clock work and the Baraat procession went off with all the pomp and circumstance. Sunday, December 20th was the grand finale of all events.  At the initial design walkthrough, we were inspired by the color robin egg blue looking at the ballroom carpet.  The color palette of robin egg blue and white was decided upon with hints of silver.  The entire ballroom was draped in the light blue color with straight white valance.  Even though client was referring to the theme as "old Hollywood,"  our inspiration was from the Russian empire. As guests arrived, their first visual was the escort card table that was dressed in custom linen of fitted royal blue linen and white faux fur fitted cap.  The couple's monogram in laser cut was visible at the bottom center and a light was placed under the table to high light the monogram.  Inside the ballroom beautiful panels in blue and silver were placed against the stage, sweet heart table was luxurious and decadent with three layers of custom linens.  The couple's chairs were dressed in white faux fur that went all the way down to the floor.  This special table was flanked by pedestals atop which sat romantic lamps. The stage for the band was embellished with large mirrors and our show stopper the was sixteen chandeliers in various shapes and sizes above the dance floor.  The dance floor itself was stunning in light blue and a large silver camellia flower in the center of the dance floor was elegant and beautiful. Long tables were mixed with rounds and created quite a drama.  Three different floral scrapes sat atop guest tables that were over the top and were embellished with white feathers and jewels.  Hundreds of flickering candles heightened the drama.  Two long family tables had chandeliers hanging above and beautiful chargers sat atop the tables with napkin treatment of fur and pearl.  When the curtains to the ballroom opened, guests were in for an unforgettable experience.  Lovely girls dressed in white stood atop pedestals playing electric violins with a full twelve-piece band. The couple made their grand entrance and went straight to the dance floor for their first dance.  Guests were entertained to beautiful music while noshing on delicious seated meal. They say all good things must come to an end and hence this memorable night came to an end as well but not without memories of our couple, their families and guests minds etched forever.
