“The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco.”

June 11th, 2014

I have a client that was looking to book a non-hotel venue in San Francisco for her wedding next year.  My good friend Gene Higa who had lived in San Francisco and was very familiar with the city offered to accompany me and set up a few appointments.  Since he was already going to be in the city for a wedding he was shooting, I coordinated with him and decided to drive up the coastline with my husband.  As much as I dislike driving, I find the drive up north very soothing and relaxing. img_1329 We left the house on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. and were in San Jose at 2:30 p.m.  The weather was absolutely beautiful and very pleasant and due to traveling on a weekday, there was no traffic.  I had a couple of appointments in San Jose and after the meetings, we headed to the city. I have always loved San Francisco and the city inspires me tremendously.  It is so nice to see people walking, restaurants packed and hustle bustle in the city.  We found Mark Twain's quote about the weather in the city to be befitting his quote, "The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco." After freshening up, we decided to get a recommendation from the concierge about a nice restaurant and he suggested Farallon, which was only a block away.  The food, service, ambiance was superb and the freshest of organic ingredients are used and menu is changed every day.  After a decadent start of the meal of lobster with avocado aioli sauce, lemon aioli sauce and a delicious salsa.  The entree consisted of the most delicious sole for me paired with fresh vegetables in a earthy broth and ended with delicious coffee. Since the next day was packed with back to back appointments, we walked back to the hotel and called it a night. Our next appointment was at 1 p.m. at Legion of Honor.  As soon as we got there, I was transported back to the "palais de la legion d'honneur" on the left bank of the River Seine in Paris.  I have always loved that building and make it a point to visit when I am in Paris.  The California building is a 3/4 scale scale replica and was built in 1924.  The day was chilly and clear and you could see the Golden Gate Bridge. The venue sits amidst grown trees with lush flora and fauna. It is a perfect and beautiful venue for  for a baraat, ceremony and reception.  We were shown around the space, which has unlimited potential for holding unique events. nikki_khan_san_francisco_wedding_planner_5 nikki_khan_san_francisco_wedding_planner_3 nikki_khan_san_francisco_wedding_planner_1 Our next appointment was at the City Hall of San Francisco.  What an amazing building with such personality and beauty!  We got a thorough tour of the space and discussed all the logistics of running an exquisite event in the venue. nikki_khan_san_francisco_wedding_planner_18 nikki_khan_san_francisco_wedding_planner_16 nikki_khan_san_francisco_wedding_planner_9 nikki_khan_san_francisco_wedding_planner_15 nikki_khan_san_francisco_wedding_planner_7 nikki_khan_san_francisco_wedding_planner_11 This was followed by the Asian Art Museum, asian art museum 4 asian art museum 2 asian art museum 7 asian art museum 6 asian art museum 5 asian art museum 9 Academy of Sciences, ca academy of sciences14 ca academy of sciences13 ca academy of sciences11 ca academy of sciences8 ca academy of sciences5 ca academy of sciences4 ca academy of sciences and the last stop was De Young museum. deyoungmuseum deyoung2 deyoung1 I enjoyed visiting and meeting with all the representatives of these gorgeous venues. Thank you gene and Braja for taking the time out of your busy schedule to accompany me and taking these beautiful photographs.  I truly got to see the city from your eyes, Gene.  Thank you Hazel for the wealth of knowledge about the city you shared with me so readily. I enjoyed each and every minute of my time spent with you and look forward to many more times together in your lovely city. -Nikki   Photo credit: Gene Higa Photography   Have an Exquisite day and we'll see you next Wednesday!

Las Vegas Wedding Reception

June 4th, 2014

The reception was held in the same ballroom as the mehndi the night before. We were going to have the cocktail hour on the same patio located right outside the ballroom but it happened to be 25 + mile/hour winds (the pool chairs were blowing into the pool!) so we had to move to plan b and have the cocktail hour in the ballroom foyer which worked out great...and guests weren't blowing away. Our inspiration for the reception was the 2014 Pantone color, Radiant Orchid. We used a range of purples in the radiant orchid hue and antique golds and silvers. A picture is worth a thousand words... check out the images from this beautiful event!
