A Birthday Celebration

February 23rd, 2018

Since my teen years I have been passionate about entertaining and setting a beautiful table for the guests. This is something that has brought me immense joy and I gave actually found it to be therapeutic. I have entertained a lot in all the years I have lived in this beautiful city Los Angeles, I call home. Last few years I have cut down on entertaining at home a lot due to lack of time and it has become a norm to have close friends and family over for casual meals. Since February is a busy month at Khan household with four back-to-back birthdays, I decided to do up the table to the nines in honor of Madiha and her husband Osman’s birthdays, which incidentally are a few days apart.

It was just our family and I decided to seat everyone including the grandchildren at the table. Since I had not done this in some time, I went all out and brought my favorite pieces to grace the table. Flowers were arranged in Baccarat, Lalique, Daum and St Louis vases. A few of my favorite Herend pieces along with Meissen and antique silver Knick knacks added to the drama and lastly all the beautiful candle holders and votives further embellished and enhanced the romantic ambiance. Madiha’s favorite Limoges dinner set, St Louis and Mozer glass ware and Christophle flatware were an exquisite addition to the set up. My husband cooked Madiha’s favorite dishes and the family enjoyed a delightful evening together.

Happy belated birthday Madiha and Osman. Wishing you many more exquisite ones to come!

#ExquisiteTravels: Paris to Barcelona

February 16th, 2018

Since our friend is nervous about flying and looks for any opportunity when she can by pass that, we decided to travel by train from Paris to Barcelona. It is was a six hour ride and we were so glad we did that. We not only experienced different weather conditions but also witnessed the most beautiful country side with vineyards, olive groves, little churches, small homes, kids playing outside and the most lush and serene fields. I would highly recommend this travel by train for someone who is not pressed for time.

On our way to Barcelona via the train

By the time we reached Barcelona and checked in to our hotel it was 9 pm. By now we had all developed an appetite and asked for a recommendation from the concierge.

Majestic hotel in Barcelona where we stayed

The tapa bar he recommended was a short distance from the hotel and a two block brisk walk felt really good. On the way we witnessed the most amazing architecture by Gaudi. Food was delicious and the high light of the meal was deep fried calamari rolled in a batter of squid ink, delicious!!

Gaudi Architecture

Our next three days were spent exploring the old and new parts of the city, having the most memorable meal at Botafumiero and countless tapa bars (which were all very good), visiting the beach, admiring the old and new parts of the city and witnessing the out of the ordinary architecture by Gaudi.

The Beach

Barcelona is a melting pot and you see people from all parts of globe and hear so many different languages being spoken. Christmas decorations were up and the atmosphere had a calm frenzy yet good energy about it. Shoppers were out buying Christmas gifts and teenagers were out and about due to holidays having fun. Tapa bars, cafes and restaurants were packed with locals and tourists and musicians entertaining the crowds with delightful music. After one day, the city grew on me.

Now that I am back to LA, I would love to some day go back and spend more time in this amazing city.

Sneak Peek: Madiha’s Bespoke Guide Photo Shoot

February 2nd, 2018

Last year we released our first Bespoke Guide to Indian Weddings with Braja Mandala and it was a true labor of love. Since we have done so many South Asian weddings, many people ask us what some of the customs and traditions signify so we wanted to put together a beautiful guide that showcases those rituals through the different weddings we have created.

The guide was so well received that we decided to make it an annual publication that will highlight recent wedding and fashion trends. In each publication, we also want to share a little bit about ourselves. Recently Braja and I got together to take a few pictures and I was able to showcase a little of my own style. People are so used to seeing me in my professional black that it was fun to dig into my closet and share a little of my style. Special thank you to Make Up by Shilpa.

Here are a few of my favorite images from the shoot that we will feature in the next Bespoke issue.
