New Orleans Special Event Show

February 16th, 2010

IMG_1250 Nikki and I had so much fun in New Orleans at the Special Event Show! We dined at Emeril's Restaurant, walked the French Quarters and Riverwalk, and stayed in the fun and artsy Warehouse District. It was Nikki's first official speaking engagement and she did great! Here's more about the seminar: sc003a9f18 January 18, 2010 The Special Event: Creating an Opulent Indian Wedding by Exquisite Events By Rebecca Borough Exquisite Events, a full scale event coordinating company based in Westlake Village, CA, had the pleasure of traveling to New Orleans last week to speak at The Special Event Show, the largest show and convention for the event planning industry, on Creating Opulent Indian Weddings. Nikki Khan, Owner and President of Exquisite Events has been in the event planning industry for fifteen years and has specialized in South Asian weddings for the past ten years, making her an expert on the subject matter. The title of the breakout session was “Creating an Opulent Indian Wedding; Influenced by the Moghul Dynasty.??? The audience was delighted to learn a brief history on the Moghul Empire and how that has influenced today’s traditions when it comes specifically to weddings. Next Khan spoke about modern day Indian weddings, including the four to five different events leading up to and even after the wedding day, touching on each of the major religious ceremonies in the subcontinent; Hindu, Sikh, and Muslim ceremonies. A video was shown demonstrating Moghul architecture and video clips from a few very opulent Sikh and Hindu weddings that Exquisite Events has coordinated in Los Angeles. The session ended with ten minutes of Q&A where the guests were excited to ask Nikki, their new mentor on Indian weddings, about anything that had peaked their interest during the talk or more personal items from event coordinators planning their first Indian wedding. This was the first of hopefully many educational sessions from Exquisite Events. It proved to be a success as it was very helpful to new coordinators, directors of catering, and hotel and venue managers. As a Special Event Show staff member commented, “this was the most helpful session at the show, by far.??? Nikki Khan hopes to expand her business, which focuses primarily on design and coordination to also offer consulting for hotels, venues, and independent coordinators.

Exquisite Events at Sherwood Country Club – October 18th, 150 guests

October 18th, 2009

[gallery link="file"] Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California has recently opened its gates to the public as a venue for weddings and private events. After meeting with Michelle Weston, Director of Catering at Sherwood, Nikki decided to invite members of the local South Asian community to a night of fine dining and music and the Country Club. She was on the lookout for an up and coming event location and Michelle was excited to debut Sherwood as a new venue to the South Asian community especially because for nineteen years it has been not been open to non-members to book events such as weddings. The romantic setting of the private waterfall, ages old oak trees set in front of a backdrop of thousands of roses make it an exquisite setting for an exquisite event! After a lovely cocktail hour on the patio with live music, specialty drinks, and gorgeous belly dancers, the guests were invited into the ballroom for a sumptuous dining experience. Music was playing in the background as the guests walked in to the room to be blown away by the opulent decor. The theme’s inspiration came from French Regency blending in with Sherwood’s colonial architectural details. Custom linens were created in deep reds, merlots, and saffron colors. The tables were set to the nines with china, stemware, and flower arrangements complimenting the theme. The lighting enhanced the atmosphere even more with stunning shades of reds and ambers.
